Fired Up

Fired Up is a participatory community project that reflects on what can happen when one master shares their skills among many students. Join some of Fremantle’s best loved ceramicists to learn about ancient and contemporary pottery traditions and to work with clay and firing kilns. Over a series of free workshops, a collaborative ceramic work will slowly take shape, as a reflection of the way that craft knowledge and innovation flows between students, generations and cultures.

Fremantle has long been known as a hub for artists and the sharing of craft skills. Inspired by the legacy of nationally-renowned local ceramicist Joan Campbell, Fired Up will begin with public hand-sculpting sessions throughout Fremantle before landing along the shore of Bathers Beach. Using the ancient Japanese process of Raku, each ceramic form will be placed into the flames to be hardened and cured.
