Through the Lens – Ink & Drawing Workshop
Saturday, 12 August
2pm – 4pm

Join Artist Sandy McKendrick for an artist talk and ink drawing workshop exploring the underwater life of Manjaree – Bathers Beach and South Beach.

Slide a large glass lens above macro photos of underwater creatures until you are captivated by an image to explore with pen, brush, and ink. Create abstract imagery inspired by the magnificent magnifications.

All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary. Suitable for adults and youth 12 years and above.

Nine Nudies – Drawing Workshop
Friday, 18th August
2pm – 5pm
$80 + BF

Join artist and marine biologist Dr Sam Adams for a nudibranch drawing workshop with a guest appearance by marine biologist Dr Nerida Wilson to talk about these fascinating creatures.

Part biological illustration, part imagination, participants will be guided through how to draw their own imaginary nudibranch species with nine images of local WA Nudies will be provided for inspiration. Dr. Wilson will be awarding prizes for the most imaginative approaches.

The workshop ticket includes a free ticket to the Let’s talk Nudies with Dr Nerida talk, following this session.

Super-Special Seadragons Session – Drawing Workshop

Join Artist and Marine Biologist Dr Sam Adams for a Super-Special Seadragons drawing workshop with a guest appearance by Marine Biologist Dr Nerida Wilson to talk about these fascinating creatures.

Part biological illustration, part imagination, participants will be guided through how to draw their own Seadragons with images of local WA Dragons provided for inspiration.

The workshop ticket includes a free ticket to the Let’s talk Seadragons with Dr Nerida talk, following this session.

Walyalup Waters – Artist Talk

Join Artists Sandy Mckendrick, Anna Nazzari, Jo Darbyshire, and Erin Coates for an artist-led conversation about their artworks exhibited in Walyalup Waters.

Working across painting, moving, and immersive installation, these three artists will discuss their deep fascination with aquatic ecologies, colonial history, and prospect of nuclear-powered submarines in Walyalup Waters.

This talk will include a walk to Bathers Beach to view Sandy McKendrick’s work in situ.

Let’s talk Nudies with Dr Nerida!

Join marine biologist Dr Neridia Wilson to talk about the fascinating world of nudibranchs.

Dr Nerida Wilson, a marine molecular biologist, is currently an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Biological Sciences, UWA and enjoys working across a broad range of organisms, although sea slugs (nudibranchs) remain her passion. Nerida has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has four species named after her.

Let’s talk Seadragons with Dr Nerida!

Creatures From the Deep

Join us for a conversation with Marine Biologist Tiffany Sih and Artists from Walylaup Waters, discussing strange and curious creatures from the deep.

Tiffany Sih is a fish ecologist who studies deep-reef and deepwater fishes. She uses underwater video imagery to investigate these unique ecosystems and finds all the weird and wonderful ways fish have adapted to the life aquatic fascinating.

Audiences are encouraged to bring along and share photos of creatures they have seen, and to discuss them with Dr Sih and the artists.
